WHAT YOU’LL DO
1. Operate aerial vehicles in an operational environment.
2. Ensure compliance with service guidance, company policies and procedures, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
3. Conduct demonstrations and participate in operational ground, flight and tests of assigned UAS(s)
4. Remotely pilot vehicles to determine compliance with specification and operational suitability during engineering tests and flight test
5. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
6. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
7. Complete all required documentation in accordance with established company procedures and/or government requirements
8. Participate in ongoing training and continuously improve all areas of the company’s drone operations, including risk mitigation, standard procedures, communications protocols, etc
9. Quickly develop keen knowledge of local geography, structures, and other environmental factors in order to enable safe, effective, and efficient flight operations
10. Pilot drone while quickly adapting to changing mission parameters in high pressure situations
11. May be required to perform minor preventative and other field maintenance/repair of drones, as needed
12. May participate in the performance of Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) in accordance with company guidelines
13. Perform R&D test flights to evaluate, troubleshoot, and train on incoming drone hardware
14. Other duties as assigned or required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
1. At least 200 hours in the field for a reputable company or government agency
2. Active FAA Part 107 License
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field
2. Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and maintaining technical equipment.
3. Experience conducting R&D flight testing and evaluation of equipment
4. Experience as a manned and/or unmanned aircraft payload operator
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must demonstrate a detailed understanding of UAS, Drone, and FAA principles, theories, and concepts
2. Significant flight experience, with documented flight time across all small UAS platforms flown
3. Demonstrated ability to fly a drone in a variety of environmental circumstances (around obstacles, at night, ignoring distractions, etc.)
4. Ability to fly with high degree of precision, while under pressure
5. Experience with single and dual operation
6. Must demonstrate a basic understanding of UAS's tactical reconnaissance
7. Experience with multiple drone hardware and software platforms
8. The ability to work both independently and in a team, environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required
9. Excellent communication and collaboration with all stakeholder groups, including internal team members and external customers
10. Must demonstrate a basic understanding of aviation principles and weather
11. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambitious startup environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a UAS Drone Pilot to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
1. Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employees must be able to stand for extended periods of time (greater than 1 hour at a time), and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key responsibilities.
2. Distant visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses,
3. Ability to walk at least ½ mile distances and up several flights of stairs as required to perform key responsibilities.
4. Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds
5. Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
6. Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the site, including the activities of other employees and/or contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
7. Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
