Job Summary The drone pilot supports our Engineering team from Austin, TX, focusing on field operations for drone hardware and software development. This role involves hands-on testing, validation, and quality assurance in R&D and customer-facing settings. The operator executes test protocols, manages autonomous flight operations during customer demonstrations, collects performance data, troubleshoots technical issues, and provides feedback to accelerate product development.
This position is critical to ensuring our autonomous systems meet reliability and performance standards before deployment.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute structured flight test protocols Coordinate logistics, including site preparation, safety briefings, and real-time flight monitoring Capture, catalog, and analyze flight data, telemetry logs, and performance metrics for engineering review Identify, document, and assist in resolving hardware and software issues Perform comprehensive pre-flight and post-flight inspections, including system calibration and safety verification Maintain robotics platforms and support equipment through scheduled maintenance and basic repairs Track and manage field equipment inventory, including batteries, tools, and test instrumentation Generate technical reports and provide actionable feedback to engineering teams for product improvement
Qualifications
Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate 1-3 years of professional drone operations experience in test, research, or development environments Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing Adaptability to dynamic, collaborative engineering environments with rapid development cycles Must be located in Austin, TX area with reliable transportation Availability for flexible scheduling Physical capability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions Ability to stand for extended period during flight operations Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds Proficiency with standard office productivity software (Microsoft Office Suite)
Pay: $23.51 - $50.00 per hour License/Certification
