Flying, instructing, and wrenching anywhere from El Paso to Beaumont. Summer density altitude, gulf moisture, dust, and where the good barbecue is within taxi distance.

Everything between El Paso and Beaumont, which is a comically large area with about four different climates in it. Say where you are flying, because advice from the panhandle does not apply on the coast.

Charleston based but Texas is on the list for after separation, mostly because half the jobs I am looking at are here. Anybody want to tell me what the cost of living actually looks like against a first year regional salary in DFW versus Houston?

Shop note for Texas operators. Dust is a maintenance item down here in a way it is not in the northeast. Filters, seals, and anything with a bearing wear faster and the intervals in the manual assume a nicer world. Budget for it.

Summer reminder for students in Houston. A 172 at gross on a 103 degree afternoon out of a 3,000 foot strip is a performance chart problem, not a vibe. Run it. I have watched a very competent person use the whole runway and be genuinely surprised.
