Six months in the left seat now. What I would tell my year-one self: the seniority number is the only thing you cannot influence, so stop optimising for it and start being the person other crews want to fly with. That is the part that actually moves your life, and it works from day one.

For the low time people reading this group and wondering how anyone gets from 500 hours to a regional. It is usually SIC time somewhere unglamorous. Part 135 right seat, cargo, survey work. Nobody hands you 1,500 hours in a 172. I instructed, which is one route, and it is not the only one.

Four years at a regional before mainline. The advice I give everybody: the first year is a tax, not a test. You are not being evaluated on whether you enjoy reserve. Pay the tax, keep the record clean, and do not make a career decision in month three.
