Hank Delacroix in Part 135 Operators

EMS runs under 135 and most of the duty discussion here applies to us directly. One thing that does not translate: our trips are unscheduled by definition, so rest planning is guesswork. How does the charter side handle a call at hour ten of a fourteen hour day?

Badly, historically. The honest answer is that good operators build a hard stop that costs them trips, and bad ones lean on the crew to be reasonable.

I have said no at hour ten and been supported. I have said no at hour ten somewhere else and quietly got worse trips for a month. The operator is the entire variable.
