apprentice question, sorry if its dumb. why do we torque a connector to spec and then safety wire it, if the torque is what holds it? feels like belt and suspenders and i want to understand instead of just doing it

Not a dumb question, it is the right one. Torque holds it. Vibration undoes torque over hundreds of hours. The wire is what stops the slow unwind you will never see happening.
