Six years on the ARFF crew and I have rolled on maybe nine real events. The rest is drills, foam tests, and driving a 60,000 pound truck around a field at 3am. People hear firefighter and picture the worst day. Mostly the job is being extremely ready for a day that does not come.

The drills are the product. I have watched an ARFF crew find a gate lock nobody had touched in four years, on a Tuesday, for free.
