A PIREP takes you eleven seconds and it is the only weather report in the system made by a human who was actually there. Everything else is a model or a machine on the ground. If you pick up ice, or you break out 400 feet higher than forecast, tell somebody. The next airplane is not hypothetical.

The night guys who report ice early make everybody safer and it costs eleven seconds. Harriet is right and I wish this got said louder.
