Simulator-Based Flight Instructor (CFI) — Simulator Instruction, Jersey City Company: Flight & Aerospace Academy Location: 118 Ferry Street, Jersey City, NJ 07307 (on-site) Job type: Part-time, hourly Schedule: Monday to Friday, 3:45 PM to 7:00 PM · Saturdays, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM (pick the slots that fit you) Flight & Aerospace Academy is a fast-growing aviation and engineering academy in Jersey City. We run simulator-based flight training , using the Private Pilot syllabus, adapted for students as young as six and running all the way through adult learners preparing for real certificates. We are hiring CFIs who want paid instructional hours close to home, on evenings and Saturday mornings, without the weather cancellations, the commute to the field, or the 6 AM preflight. What you'll actually do • Teach small groups (1:5 max ratio) in 90-minute simulator blocks, working through maneuvers, checklists, radio work, and cross-country planning
• Adapt the same core material across very different learners, from a nine-year-old on their first traffic pattern to an adult working toward a real certificate
• Track student progress against our syllabus so families and students can see exactly where they stand
• Help design how we teach: scenarios, challenges, missions, and progression systems that make a syllabus feel like something worth coming back to
• Spot the students ready to move into the airplane.
Reimagine what ground instruction can be This is the part we care most about. Kids do not learn the way a Part 141 syllabus assumes they do. A ten-year-old will not sit through forty minutes on airspace classes. But that same kid will absolutely fly a night approach into a crosswind three times in a row if it is framed as a challenge with a score attached. We build our instruction around that: skill points, missions, storm landings, timed courses, documented progression. It works, and we want an instructor who will push it further. If you have ever thought "there is a better way to teach this," this is a place where you can actually go build it. What we're looking for Required • Current FAA CFI certificate
• Comfortable teaching the Private Pilot syllabus end to end
• Available for at least one weekday slots (3:45 to 5:15 PM or 5:30 to 7:00 PM) or Saturday mornings
• Able to get to Jersey City reliably (we are a short hop from Manhattan and well served by transit)
• Patient, clear, and genuinely good with kids. This matters more than your hours
Nice to have • CFII or MEI
• Experience teaching youth, coaching, camps, or classroom instruction
• Familiarity with home or professional simulator platforms (X-Plane, MSFS, Redbird)
• Interest in drones, Part 107, or RC aviation, which are also part of what we teach
