POSITION: Lead Repair Technician LOCATION: Chatsworth, CA Job Summary: The Lead Repair Technician is the senior working technician on the floor of the company’s Part 145 Repair Station. This is a hands-on role first. The Lead performs inspection, repair, overhaul, and testing of aircraft accessory, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical components alongside the team, and is the person others come to when a repair is difficult. On top of that bench work, the Lead directs daily shop-floor assignments, reviews completed work packages, trains junior technicians, and certifies airworthy return to service within the scope of the repair station’s Air Agency Certificate.
The position is the senior technical seat in the shop. About the employer The company is an FAA and EASA certificated Part 145 component repair station in Chatsworth, CA, specializing in aircraft accessory, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical repair. They are a small shop doing serious work. Their customers include Boeing, FedEx, Singapore Airlines, LATAM, and Asiana, and they hold top-tier standing on Boeing’s supplier scorecard. Revenue has grown roughly two and a half times since 2024, and customers continue to hand them larger and more complex programs. Growth Path This position is deliberately structured with room above it. The company’s repair operation is led today by a General Manager who also serves as VP of Quality and Chief Inspector. The Lead Repair Technician is the intended successor for day-to-day leadership of the shop, with a path to Shop Foreman. The employer will invest in the training, authorizations, and certifications required to get there, including Inspection Authorization and additional OEM and process qualifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Perform hands-on inspection, repair, overhaul, modification, and functional testing of aircraft accessory, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical components. This is expected to be the majority of the role. • Manage the work of repair technicians and inspectors on the shop floor to ensure assigned jobs are completed on schedule, in accordance with approved procedures, and to applicable quality standards. • Oversee and/or perform inspections, repairs, overhaul, and testing of aircraft accessory and hydraulic components. • Review completed work packages, non-conformance reports, and inspection buy-backs before final certification. • Execute and sign FAA Form 8130-3 tags for work performed within the scope of the repair station’s Air Agency Certificate and the technician’s individual authorization, certifying applicable parts as airworthy for return to service. • Oversee repairs on malfunctioning components in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer specifications. • Maintain compliance with 14 CFR Part 145, the station’s Repair Station Manual (RSM) and Quality Control Manual (QCM), and all applicable Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Service Bulletins (SBs). • Ensure proper use, calibration, and control of tools, test equipment, and calibrated instruments. • Responsible for maintaining records of maintenance and repair work in accordance with company procedures, safety standards, and FAA regulatory requirements. • Enforce safety protocols, shop cleanliness (FOD control), and compliance with Cal/OSHA and company safety policies. • Communicate with customers, vendors, and regulatory representatives (FAA, DAR) as needed regarding work status and technical findings.
