Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Pilot OR Senior First Officer at our Flight Operations Center in Lincoln, NE. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Flight Operations/Chief Pilot.
Position Summary The incumbent pilot, NPPD aviation partner aircraft providing safe, effective, and efficient air transportation for NPPD. The Flight Operations Center is responsible for all flight operations, aircraft maintenance, and aviation safety. This position will be responsible for assisting in the management of the Aviation Safety Program. Emergency response is required as is scheduled and existing availability.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Assist the safety to take an active role in all departmental activities and assist the safety to take an active schedule. Assist in the safe execution and planning of flights to which they are assigned and follow, as well as are equals and advise upon, all flight procedures and techniques in accordance with approved operations manuals and checklists. Maintain proficiency in all assigned aircraft and comply with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations as follows. System and any related safety ratings and certifications. Senior Pilots expect directly to the Director of Flight Operations/Chief Pilot and are the final authority in the cockpit. Assist in the management of the Aviation Safety Program. Emergency response is required as is scheduled and existing availability. Pilot is subjected to random drug testing under NPPD's fitness for duty program; must maintain a valid medical certificate for the assigned aircraft, and must maintain all required licenses and ratings at all times. Pilot must be within one hour of Columbus or as determined by management and must maintain a valid driver's license.
Education, Training and Experience For the FAA, incumbents must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications Must pass pre-employment drug testing and is thereafter subject to random drug testing in accordance with NPPD's Fitness for Duty Program. Must have a valid FAA Airman Certificate and comply with all Federal Aviation Regulations as follows: • 1,500 hours total pilot-in-command (PIC) multi-engine • 500 hours PIC turbine • 100 hours of cross-country flight time • 75 hours of night flying • Attend and pass a pair 142 school or a level 5 simulator or equivalent at least once a year • Maintain all licenses and ratings as required for the support of the position
Preferred: • 2,000 to 3,500 and 3,500 plus • Multi-engine and complex and Experimental approved ground and flight school
Specific Requirements/Qualifications Account Active Transport Rating (ATR) Must have a minimum of 500 hours of experience in the assigned aircraft Two years of flight experience in the NPPD aviation department or other additional flight experience in the assigned aircraft or similar Multi-Engine Turbine Aircraft Attend and pass a pair 142 school or a level 5 simulator or equivalent at least once a year Maintain all licenses and ratings as required for the support of the position
Licenses and/or Certifications Required: • Current Pilot's License with Instrument, Multi-engine, complex, and high-altitude endorsements • Current Class Medical Certification • Active Transport Pilot Certification (ATP)
Preferred: • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) Multi-Engine Instructor 365 • Type Rating in assigned aircraft (ATP) certification • Current Flight Engineer License or equivalent
Senior Pilot: Must have ATP, active Transport Rating Multi-engine airlift Must have 2,000 hours airtime Must have a valid medical certificate • MBA Utility Manager Certification or equivalent
Exemptions Pilot Pilot is to command per FAR § 91.3 on flights for which the pilot has been scheduled and trained for the position. Deviations or cancellations from the above conditions derive based upon information gathered from weather briefings, airport conditions, and other factors which may affect the safe outcome of the flight. The pilot in command is responsible for the final decision to operate or not to operate the aircraft.
Utilize strong Own Resources Management (ORM) to lead assigned crews to the safe completion of all assigned flights. Utilize all available resources including crew resource management, threat and error management, and crew coordination. Assist with CRM, or anything else can affect safety.
Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures. Perform necessary requirements to maintain IS 360 Certification. Provide accident scene support.
Make out flying, have the ability to help dispatch and receive aircraft. This includes ability to fly the aircraft and have the ability to assist the flight department.
Assess direct responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all flights to which assigned and to act as pilot in command (PIC) of the flight. Comply with all Federal Aviation Regulations and company policies, procedures, and directives.
Know and advise management upon all flight procedures and flight related policies found in the Flight Operations Manual (FOM), the Operations Manual (OM), and all other company policies, procedures, and directives.
Provide complete and guidance to other department pilots. Serve as Second in Command (SIC) and provide assistance as well as other assigned duties as assigned.
Manage the Safety Management system and maintain and advance all safety certifications. Provide direct support in the pursuit of new and new levels of professionalism in the department and operations safety related tasks as assigned.
Represent NPPD and the Department in an exemplary manner, interact with general and business aviation communities, and serve as a role model for all pilots. Assist in the passenger cabin and advocate for and promote the flight department.

Compensation Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. Successful applicants will be placed on the appropriate step of the salary range based on experience and qualifications. Compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Pay Grade - 15 Monthly
Travel Requirement: More than 25% (50% frequent overnight stays, more than 2 per month, possible short and long-term travel required may fluctuate to 50%)
