POSITION PURPOSE As Captain/Instructor Pair 135, you will lead the training and development of pilots to ensure they meet our stringent safety and operational standards. Your role will include all training, evaluating, and mentoring pilots through comprehensive flight training programs. You will also update training materials and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Pilot training and evaluation: Conduct initial, transition, upgrade, and recurrent training for pilots in the classroom and aircraft • Assessments: Evaluate pilot performance during operational assessments to ensure they comply with all FAA standards • Curriculum development: Develop and update training materials, curricula, and standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for the certificate holder • Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to pilots to foster professional development • Safety standards: Act as a role model and reinforce the company's commitment to a strong safety culture and best practices • Record keeping: Maintain accurate and current training and performance records for all pilots • Regulatory compliance: Ensure that all training and flight operations comply with FAA Part 135 regulations and other relevant guidance • Commute the aircraft and crew from departure to the destination • Operate assigned flights after determining airworthiness of the aircraft and reviewing all required factors such as weather, fuel conditions, navigational aids, and terrain to the aircraft • Reviews the load manifest for accuracy • Supervises and directs performance of other crew members assigned to the aircraft • Ensures compliance with all Company procedures and FAA regulations relative to the conduct of flight • Ensures the safe and expeditious of any deviation that could affect the flight schedule in a timely manner • Coordinates it a reliable and on-time operation by meeting all report times and minimum equipment lists • Assists in the loading and unloading of the aircraft when such assistance will expedite the handling of the flight or special service to the passengers • Utilizes every opportunity to provide experience and instructions to the First Officer in order to develop him to the fullest • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor, adheres to the Company uniform dress code and observes the Rules of Conduct for all associates as outlined in the Association Handbook • Continues professional training towards upgrading performance and abilities • Performs other duties as assigned or required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • The aeronautical knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job • High School diploma or GED • Pilot certificate: Must hold a Commercial Multi-Engine certificate and appropriate category and class ratings for the aircraft being operated • Must have minimum of 2000 hours total time and 500 hours total time PIC • Must have minimum of 100 hours in the specific aircraft type (DA-42) • Regulatory knowledge: A thorough knowledge of FARs, specifically Part 135, and company operations specifications is essential
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE • A Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating • Airline experience • Previous flight training experience, preferably in an aviation environment
REGULATORY • Must pass an FAA required 10 year work history review and criminal background and fingerprint checks • Possess and maintain a valid US passport for foreign nationals • Authorized by law to work in the United States and able to travel in and out of the United States
REQUIREMENTS for CAPABILITIES only to Qualify • Must submit to and able to pass FAA and Company mandated drug and alcohol tests • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, crew, passengers and the general public. Able to speak and be understood in English, including standard radio phraseology during emergency situations
REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Information is usually furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to remain calm, think and react quickly in all types of emergency situations including but not limited to medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, structural disturbances, turbulence, etc.
DECISION MAKING • Ability to make decisions that produce the most favorable results. Decisions require some thought and are somewhat structured. Decisions could require additional expenditure of resources if not sound decisions. Able to process information and make decisions in a positive manner during unexpected and/or serious situations. Capable of controlling personal and emotional responses and displaying sound judgment levels in all situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Able to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and reach • Able to sit for long periods of time • Must possess the physical strength to reach and operate all emergency equipment and safety equipment located throughout the aircraft • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis • Capable of moving objects and flight bag up to 40 pounds • Capable of operating lifting, loading and unloading of passenger cabin luggage above the aircraft • Able to see up to 20/40 in each eye • Able to relate to the visual acuity set in the medical standards established by the FAA • Able to hear a normal conversation in person, on the telephone and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise • Possess the stamina needed to work long days with frequent changes in temperature • Able to work in all weather conditions • Must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, efficiently and safely in a confined environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. • This position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts • Willstand outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar and on the flight line • The noise level may be loud, and use of headset is needed as required by policies and procedures. Willing and able to work a rotating schedule, on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early morning, night, overnight and weekends.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS • Travel up to 10% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays and overnight travel • Able to work scheduled hours with lots of scheduling control and be ready to report to work
